First off, we need to know and understand the meaning of holistic, according to thesaurus: emphasizing the organic or functional relation between parts and the whole; in medical term, holistic (Medicine) is relating to the medical consideration of the complete person, physically and psychologically, in the treatment of a disease.

Holistic Medicine or Holistic Remedies is a term used to connote to therapies or treatment to a patient embodying a person as a whole.  Holistic medicines looks and probes into a person’s overall  harmony  and balance of the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being instead of just treating the person of its illness. 

The main focus of holistic medicine is to find solutions and address the underlying causes of every subject concerned such as diseases and the condition of the illness. Holistic medicine also focus on finding options to alleviate the cause of disease in a way that would not have to undergo surgery or the use of certain drug, but might make use of prescription if it is of utmost importance.


On Holistic Remedies:

Holistic remedies can also be termed as alternative remedies, natural remedies or home remedies. Holistic remedies are defined in so many forms and ways. These may include herbal remedies, acupuncture, colon cleansing, homeopathy, vitamin supplement or nutritional supplements, herbal products, massage, use of traditional Chinese medical herbs and medicines, oxygen therapy, and naturopathic medicine. For some these may involve a change, something like changes in lifestyle, diet, cleansing or detoxification, or cleaning of one’s place.

Natural remedies are found basically on its naturalness or natural sources. Holistic remedies are those tried and tested true practices, beliefs and traditions passed down from generations that use foods or home treatments to cure ailments.  Alternative remedies on the other hand, are the ones that are not considered to be a main medical practice. Therefore we can term natural, holistic and home remedies under the category of alternative medicines.


On what to choose:

Making a choice can be quite complicated as there are several choices and options that would depend on several factors to consider. Like its availability, the cost, it’s effectively, characteristic of a certain condition, the limitations, and restraints, restrictions in life like money or time or place restraints.

There are also several complications and approaches to consider when choosing the right holistic remedy. If you consider acupuncture as a helpful remedy to your health problem but are rare to find in your place, you need to pursue another approach. And with budget restraints, you have to find something which is more cost effective.
It is really a best idea to choose the best and necessary remedies before trying to invest yourself, your time on their possibilities, availability and level of effectiveness. Make a decision based on your own findings by doing some research about certain health problems to become more educated and knowledgeable of your own health conditions.
